On November 4, Michael Merenich will run the TCS New York City Marathon! Michael is one of our Clinical Exercise Physiologists at the TLC Center. Michael has trained many past members of Team Leckey and this year he will have the chance to experience the marathon first-hand! GOOD LUCK MICHAEL!!
Michael is running the race for 38 year old Jeffrey Loughney! Jeffrey is well known and loved at Allied Services, not only by his therapists, but by his supervisors and fellow employees. Born three weeks late, Jeff suffered a lack of oxygen to the brain, causing cognitive and physical impairments including scoliosis.
When he was 16, Jeffrey started working at Allied Services through a learning support program that allowed him to take regular support classes in the morning and work in the William Warren Scranton Vocational Center in the afternoon. Employees at the vocational center work on packaging and processing jobs for local companies such as Dempsey Linen and Uniform Supply and Gertrude Hawk Chocolates, allowing them to earn a real wage for a real job.
Jeff is best described as a social butterfly. He loves taking the COLTS bus to and from work everyday, chatting with everyone from the driver to his fellow passengers. He enjoys playing baseball, basketball and football, as well as going to the movies and the casino.
Jeff is a perfect example of someone who doesn't let his disability control his life. He should be considered a role model to us all.
